Room to boost trade with UK -

ilateral relations between Britain and Zambia go back to the 19th century. In the 1880s much of the area fell under the control of the British South Africa Company, becoming Northern Rhodesia in 1911 and coming under direct British control in 1924. This
long-standing relationship has left the two nations with a lot in common.
They share similar legal, legislative, executive, education and health
systems, and there are cultural links in areas such as arts, education
and sports. President Mwanawasa would like to see British investors returning to Zambia now that a more business-friendly environment is being created. Commercial links between Zambia and the UK are currently worth around £24 million and the president believes that figure could be improved. The trade between Zambia and the United Kingdom could treble over present levels, he says. Main
